Thiago Soares is the General Coordinator for Innovation, Regulation and Systems at the Ministry of Communications’ Broadcasting Secretariat. He worked for 12 years at the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) acting as coordinator of several projects in the broadcasting area. In particular, he was actively involved in the process of planning Digital TV channels and the use of the 700MHz band, in the AM-FM Migration process, in the development of IT systems and in the technical regulation and planning of broadcasting services. Thiago has extensive international experience and has represented Brazil in broadcasting forums at the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission, Mercosur and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) since 2008. In 2019, he was appointed vice-president of ITU Study Commission 6, in which issues related to the worldwide harmonization and standardization of technologies for the broadcasting sector are discussed. He is currently developing projects in the area of innovation in broadcasting, standardization and computerization of the granting process for radio and TV channels. Thiago holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Brasília (UnB) and a postgraduate degree in Telecommunications Regulation from the Instituto Nacional e Telecomunicações (Inatel).
